If you've never had counselling before, it can be a bit daunting and if you've had a bad experience with counselling before it can be confusing.
Let's see if I can alleviate some of that fear and confusion.
The counselling I offer is face to face or over the phone.
However, firstly, if you'd like to, we'll have a chat on the phone, over email or through a messaging service about what you think you'd like to get out of counselling. That initial conversation can help ease any concerns you may have and allow the opportunity, to get a feel for how we would work together.
(I can't stress enough just how important your relationship is, with the counsellor you choose to work with. That relationship is THE most important aspect of your therapy.)
Once the initial conversation has happened, if you would like to continue, we then book the first session.
The building I work in, has a reception, waiting area and toilet facilities,
the Counselling room itself is comfortable and relaxing.
In the first session we will complete some brief paperwork, to agree how we will work together,
including things like how to cancel appointments if you're sick and how confidentiality will work.
Each session lasts for 50 minutes.
At the end of the session we then book the next session, if thats what you would like to do.
If not, then you can take some time to think abut what you'd like to do.
There is no limit to the amount of sessions you have, but if you would like to limit them, to say 6 or 8 for instance then just let me know as we will work in a more structured and focused way.
